How can a dictionary for mac help?

What are the benefits of a Mac OSX dictionary?

How does it improve your vocabulary?

It would be childish if I define a dictionary since we all are well aware that a dictionary is a collection of words arranged alphabetically with their meanings, usage information, phonetics, pronunciation and other related information.

Apple has made available the dictionary to its Mac users. The dictionary for mac was introduced with Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger”. It provides synonyms and definitions from the “New Oxford American Dictionary, 2nd Edition” and “Oxford American Writer’s Thesaurus, 2nd Edition”.

In mac OSX, you can look up a word in the New Oxford American Dictionary, Oxford American Writer’s Thesaurus, Wikipedia and Apple Dictionary. When you place the pointer over an unfamiliar word and then press control-command –D to bring the dictionary installed on your Mac. Here, you can choose to view Thesaurus results. When you click “More”, you can see the complete definition. When you highlight a word and then right-click to select “Look up in Dictionary”, you get the definition of the word.

TranslateIt! For Mac is a Mac OSX dictionary. It can translate any word from any language to any language. It is a multilingual dictionary that enables you to know the translation of a word once you place the pointer to the word and as the pointer hovers over the word, instantly a popup window comes up containing the translation. It enables translation by four different methods, that is, by translation by clipboard, drag and drop translation, manual input of queries in the main window, and by double clicking translation of words in dictionary entries displayed in the main window.

TranslateIt! For Mac supports English, German, French, Spanish and Russian morphology. It has features like printing of flash cards, customizable dictionary display options, multilingual user interface and detachable cards with translation results.
